How to set up and use Bluetooth on the HTC Touch Pro2

Setting up and using Bluetooth on the HTC Touch Pro2 to communicate wirelessly with other devices

The HTC Touch Pro2 is a powerfully equipped Windows Mobile smartphone that offers a good range of connectivity options, including Wi-Fi, HSPA high-speed mobile data and Bluetooth wireless technology.

Bluetooth enables the HTC Touch Pro2 to communicate wirelessly with a wide range of other Bluetooth-enabled devices, including wirefree headsets, in-car systems, mobile phones, PCs, speakers, printers, headphones and more.

Bluetooth is a short-range wireless communication technology that allows devices within range to send and receive data, and can be used for voice communication, streaming music and transferring files - including images, video, music and other content - between devices.

The HTC Touch Pro2's Bluetooth capability is easy to set up and use. Here, we show you how to set up, pair devices and use Bluetooth to send files...

Switching on Bluetooth

  1. On the HTC Touch Pro2's home screen, press the Settings tab on the bar at the bottom of the display (represented by a cog-like icon), or alternatively swipe your finger sideways until you get to the Settings menu.

(Alternatively, you can press the Start button in the top left hand corner of the display, and in the Main Menu press Settings).
  2. In the Settings menu, press Communications.
  3. In the Communications menu, pressing the slider box to the right of the Bluetooth panel will quickly switch on (or off) Bluetooth.
  4. The slider on the right turns green, indicating that Bluetooth has been switched on.
  5. If you press the main Bluetooth panel first, however, you will be taken into the Bluetooth Settings menu. You will be prompted to switch Bluetooth on to continue. Press Yes.
  6. You will be taken into the Bluetooth Settings menu.

Changing Bluetooth settings

When you enter the Bluetooth Settings menu (Switching on: Step 5), you are initially presented with a list of paired devices. If none have been previously paired it will be blank. You can pair new devices by pressing Add (see Pairing with Bluetooth devices, below).

  1. Press the left tab towards the top of the display to view a list of other Bluetooth Settings options. Here you can choose to Add a Bluetooth device to the pairing list, switch off Bluetooth, change the name of your device as it appears to other Bluetooth-enabled devices, enable your phone to be discovered by other devices, and more.
  2. Changing your name: You may want to change the name of the phone from its default name – HTC Touch Pro2 T7373 – to something more personally identifiable, such as your name, a nickname, etc. In the Bluetooth Settings menu, press the panel labelled HTC Touch Pro2 T7373. You are taken into the Device Name screen.
  3. Using the soft keyboard or slider Qwerty keyboard, type in the new name you want to assign to the phone. When you finished, press Done.
  4. The new name - displayed in the Settings menu - will now be visible to other Bluetooth devices when your phone is within range and it is discoverable.
  5. Making the phone discoverable: The default setting is for discoverability to be switched off. To switch it on, so that other Bluetooth phones within range can see it, in the Bluetooth Settings menu, press the panel labelled Not Discoverable.
Press the drop down menu box that appears in the Device Visibility screen.
  6. Press to select one of the visibility options - Always Visible or Visible for 60 seconds. When selected, press Done.

Your phone's visibility status is changed and other Bluetooth devices will now be able to see it.

Pairing with another Bluetooth device
You can pair the HTC Touch Pro2 with another device so you can automatically connect to it and communicate when in range. This could be a headset, printer, PC or other device.

  1. To pair with a new device, in the Bluetooth Settings menu (Settings: Step 1), press Add a Device, or in the Bluetooth pairing menu (Switching on: Step 5), press Add.
  2. A list appears of Bluetooth devices within range of your phone. Press the name of the device to which you wish to pair.
  3. You are now prompted for a passkey code. This will be either automatically generated (the HTC  Touch Pro2 supports Bluetooth 2.1 with Secure Simple Pairing feature that will do this with a similarly-equipped device), or you will be promoted to input a passkey code.

    • If the other device supports Secure Simple Pairing all you need to do on your device and the pairing device is to verify that the passcode automatically generated is the same on both devices and tap Yes. The two devices will be paired.
    • Alternatively, you will be prompted for a passkey code. If it is a Bluetooth headset you're pairing with, this may be pre-stored and could be something simple such as '1234' or '0000'. This isn't code you need to remember for security purposes, so if you have the option to select a code, you can choose something simple. When you have typed it in, press OK.
  4. If you are pairing with a PC, phone or similar Bluetooth-enabled device, the device you're connecting may also prompt you for the Passkey code. Type in the same passkey code into the paired device and press Pair to continue.
  5. The device pairing will be confirmed onscreen. Press Done to continue.

Sending images and other files via Bluetooth

You can send items via Bluetooth, such as images, videos, audio files, contacts, ringtones, calendar events, tasks and notes. You can either select them in their appropriate files and press Menu for sending options or select them via the Bluetooth menu.

  1. From content folders: In the Pictures & Videos folder (or other folders), locate an image (or other file) you wish to send via Bluetooth. Press to select.
  2. Press Menu.
  3. Press Send via Bluetooth.
  4. The phone will search for other Bluetooth devices within range. Press the one you wish to send to.
  5. The device you're sending to will be promted to accept the file via Bluetooth. Press Accept and the file will be sent to the other device. This will be confirmed onscreen.
  6. From the Bluetooth Settings menus: Alternatively, in the Bluetooth Setting menu (Settings: Step 1), with Bluetooth switched on, press the far right tab. Press BT Send Object.
  7. Using the panel at the top of the display, swipe sideways between content options (images, videos, ring tones, etc.). Scroll down to view the list of content files. Press to tick the boxes for the items you wish to send via Buetooth.
  8. Once you've ticked all the items you wish to send, press the Send button on the bottom left of the display.
  9. The phone will search for other Bluetooth devices within range. Press the one you wish to send to.
  10. The device you're sending to will be promoted to accept the file via Bluetooth. Press Accept and the file will be sent to the other device. This will be confirmed onscreen.
