How to set up and use Wi-Fi on the HTC Touch Pro2
Setting up and using Wi-Fi on the HTC Touch Pro2 for high speed data connectivity via home, office or public Wi-Fi networks
The HTC Touch Pro2 is one well connected Windows Mobile-powered smartphone, offering users the option of using HSPA high speed mobile data or Wi-Fi for online connectivity.
This provides the HTC Touch Pro2 with high-speed browsing capability and fast uploading, downloading and streaming of content, plus good connectivity for online-based applications and services.
The HTC Touch Pro2 can connect via Wi-Fi to any Wi-Fi IEEE 802.11g/b network, so you can hook up to home Wi-Fi hubs, office Wi-Fi networks or access public Wi-Fi hotspots.
It's easy to set up an use Wi-Fi on the HTC Touch Pro2 - here we show you how.
Setting up Wi-Fi and connecting to networks
- On the HTC Touch Pro2's home screen, press the Settings tab on the bar at the bottom of the display (represented by a cog-like icon), or alternatively swipe your finger sideways until you get to the Settings menu.
(Alternatively, you can press the Start button in the top left hand corner of the display, and in the Main Menu press Settings). - In the Settings menu, press Communications.
- In the Communications menu, you can switch any of the options on by pressing them, or on or off by pressing the slider box to the right side of the option. Press Wi-Fi.
- The slider on the right turns green, indicating that Wi-Fi has been switched on.
- When Wi-Fi is switched on, the phone will automatically display any Wi-Fi networks within range, with icons indicating the signal strength and whether a network is open or secure.
- In the Wi-Fi Networks screen, press the name of the Wi-Fi network to which you wish to be connected. If it is an unsecured network you will be immediately connected, and this will be confirmed in the Wi-Fi menu.
If a network is secure, you will be prompted for a Wi-Fi Network key passcode. This is the password or passcode previously set up by the person responsible for the Wi-Fi network (you or someone in your house for a home Wi-Fi hub, the network administrator for office Wi-Fi , or the service provider for a public hotspot). - Using the soft keyboard or slide out keyboard, type in the Network key code. Press Done.
In a few moments you will be connected to the Wi-Fi network. You can now begin to browse or use other online-based services via Wi-Fi.
If you're not connected straight away, you may need to get Wi-Fi pre-authorisation before connection (see Finding the HTC Touch Pro2's MAC address below).
Searching for new Wi-Fi networks
You may want to search for other in-range Wi-Fi networks to connect to. You can follow the procedure above from Step X onwards if Wi-Fi is off. When Wi-Fi is on, it's easy to search and find Wi-Fi networks.
- Press the Status Bar on the top of the display, in the right hand corner.
- The Notifications screen displays status information for certain features and functions. Press the icon on the right of the Wi-Fi option (it resembles a thin keyhole).

Press the Wi-Fi panel. - You will be taken straight to the Wi-Fi Networks selection screen, as outlined in Setting up: Step 5. Finding the HTC Touch Pro2's MAC address
If you're connecting to a Wi-Fi network that requires pre-authorisation before connection (even with the correct pre-shared key), you may require the phone's MAC address. This is a 12-character address that the administrator of the network may need to pre-authorise your phone to connect. It may be automatically detected when you try to sign onto the network.
- When you're in the Wi-Fi Networks screen (Setting up: Step 5) press the Advanced button on the bottom right of the display. You are taken into the Settings for Wireless LAN.
- Press the tab towards the bottom of the display marked Advanced.
- Here you'll find the HTC Touch Pro2's MAC address - a 12-charcacter code. Input this into the appropriate place in the Wi-Fi router access set up procedure. You will now be able to access the Wi-Fi network, although you will still be required to enter a Network key passcode.
