The Motorola DEXT is all geared up for a user-friendly social networking and messaging, with its MOTOBLUR user interface bringing together many of your favourite social networking and communication services together in one intuitive home screen set up.

The MOTOBLUR system brings together social networking, email, messaging, contacts and other services into one account that you can manage easily via the handset or online.

Layered on top of the Motorola DEXT's Android smartphone operating system, the MOTOBLUR set up provides home screen widgets that deliver updates and enable you to manage services such as Facebook, Twitter, MySpace, Picasa and Photobucket from the home screen. It also synchronises contacts, posts, feeds, messages, emails, and so on - making this Qwerty keyboard-packing smartphone a powerful communications tool.

Setting up MOTOBLUR is pretty straightforward. The first time you switch on the Motorola DEXT you are prompted to register for MOTOBLUR account. Having done this, you can then manage, synchronise and get live updates from multiple services.

Creating your MOTOBLUR account

1. When you first switch on, press the screen and you will be taken to the MOTOBLUR set up screen. Select your language by pressing the panel and selecting the option you want from the list that appears. Press Start.
2. 'Register a new account' is highlighted. Press Next.
3. Press the panel to read Terms and Conditions for the MOTOBLUR service.
4. Terms and Conditions appear. Press Finished Reading when you are ready to continue.
5. Press the 'I agree' box. A green tick appears. Press Next.
6. A MOTOBLUR account set up page appears. You must type in details for each of the fields. Using the keyboard, type in each of the panels the details required. Press the next panel to highlight it before typing.
7. When you have typed in all relevant details, press Next.
8. A confirmation screen appears. Press Confirm. In a few moments your MOTOBLUR account is created.
9. Confirmation that the account has been created appears. Press Next.
10. You are now taken to a screen where you set up a range of services to use via MOTOBLUR.

Setting up MOTOBLUR

1. When you first set up your MOTOBLUR account, you can set up various services to work with MOTOBLUR. Press the icon representing the service you wish to use, such as Facebook, Google Mail, MySpace, Picasa, LastFM, Twitter, Photobucket, Bebo, or any email service you wish to use.
2. Type in your regular username and password for the account (pressing the appropriate panel to activate it). Press Next. The service will be added to your MOTOBLUR account, providing updates and management options on home screen widgets (see Setting up: Step 8).
3. You can add more services by pressing other icons to select them and following the same procedure for typing in account details outlined above. You can add additional services and accounts later, if you prefer. When you've added all the services you wish to include in your MOTOBLUR set up, press Finished Adding Accounts.
4. Depending on which services you have selected, you may be asked which photos to use. Press the panel to select the option required. Press Next.
5. You are asked to consent to Google location service tracking your position. Press the onscreen panel to agree, and press Next.
6. The set up is complete. Press Done.
7. You are returned to the home screen. Information and updates from the services and accounts you have registered in MOTOBLUR are updated in widgets populating the screen. 
8. Press a widget to get more message information, status updates and so on.
9. You can scroll through updates by swiping with your finger and pressing buttons where appropriate to select function options.

Adding more services

1. If you want to add more of your services to MOTOBLUR after your initial set up, from the home screen, press the Home button under the display (centre) or the Main Menu button on the bottom of the screen (centre).
2. The Main Menu appears. Press Accounts.
3. You are taken into your MOTOBLUR Accounts menu list. Press Add Account.
4. You are taken into the Account selection screen, similar to Setting up: Step 1. Continue as before from Setting up: Step 2 onwards.

Deleting services

1. If you would like to remove services from your MOTOBLUR account, in the Accounts menu, press the account you wish to remove. You are taken into a details screen. Press Remove Account.
2. A panel pops up prompting you to confirm the removal. Press Yes.
3. The account is removed.
