Amazon releases iPhone image recognition feature

Online retail behemoth Amazon has released Amazon Remembers, an image recognition shopping feature that forms part of its dedicated shopping iPhone application, Amazon Mobile.
Retail giant Amazon UK has released an iPhone application that enables its users to browse and buy goods using image recognition.
The image recognition feature, known as Amazon Remembers, comes as part of Amazon’s first dedicated shopping application, Amazon Mobile. The basic premise of Amazon Remembers is that it allows users to upload images off their iPhones and search for similar products on Amazon.
"Customers have been requesting an Amazon.co.uk shopping app for their iPhone and iPod touch and we are thrilled to introduce the Amazon App in time for Christmas,” said Brian McBride, managing director of Amazon.co.uk.
He added: "Experience in the US tells us that the Amazon Remembers feature is proving very useful to customers because it remembers items of interest for them, helping to keep track of products and matching photos with items to buy on Amazon.”
The application also allows users to track orders, read reviews of products, add to and amend wish-lists, as well as buy items via one-click ordering - and all just in time for Christmas!
