Orange confirms release date and price plans for the iPhone
Orange has announced they will begin selling both the iPhone 3G and the iPhone 3GS from 10 November at 7am.
Previously, 02 was the exclusive provider of iPhones but Apple opened up distribution to Orange, Vodafone and 3 and it was hoped this would lead to more competitive tariffs. However, this does not seem to be the case based on Orange's announcement this morning, where the tariffs have been kept pretty much in line with 02's.
Customers will be able to get their hands on the iPhone 3GS for free on a two-year £45 per month contract. Additionally, the iPhone 3G will also be available for free on a similar £30 per month two-year contract.
“The excitement for the iPhone is immense, and this is a great day for our customers, our company and our employees. Since we announced the iPhone on Orange we have already seen more than a quarter of a million customers register their interest on our website," said Tom Alexander, CEO of Orange UK.
He added: “We will be matching their enthusiasm with a 3G mobile broadband network that covers more people in the UK than any other operator, a commitment to deliver the best 3G experience on the iPhone and best-in-class applications and plans.”
“Earlier this year we stated our ambition to become the destination brand of choice for high end mobile users in the UK. With the launch of the iPhone on November 10 we’re pleased to be fulfilling that ambition.”
In addition to the contract deals, Orange is offering a PAYG option that will allow users to pick up an iPhone 3G for £333 providing they top up by £50 on purchase. Orange PAYG customers will also get 250MB of data allowance each month, as well as unlimited use of BT Openzone for the first 12 months.
