The Android 2.0 powered Motorola Milestone, also known as the Droid in the US, is set for a European release later this month. A UK release could follow shortly after.

The Milestone, which is to be released under O2 and Vodafone in Germany later this month, supports a variety of Google Apps, such as Google Talk, Gmail, and Latitude as well as access to the Android market.

“MILESTONE is a smartphone without compromise, delivering a wiser, richer web and messaging experience. This is possible through the combination of Motorola’s expertise in design and a truly differentiated Android experience,” said Ralf Gerbershagen, vice president and general manager of Motorola Western Europe, in a statement.

The European Milestone will differ slightly from its US counterpart through the inclusion of a pinch-to-zoom function, double tap option, and also gesture recognition.

The Milestone will ship with an 8GB memory card, a 3.7 inch display, and apparently the thinnest full QWERTY slider on the market.

“In MILESTONE, form and function align to offer a clearer, more brilliant widescreen for enjoyable pinch and zoom web browsing, the thinnest slider keyboard for messaging and push email that syncs both work and personal accounts, and a range of entertainment features including DVD quality video playback,” said Gerbershagen.

Specs wise, the device will use a 600 MHz ARM Cortex-A8 processor, have a five megapixel camera, and utilise CrystalTalk, which is designed for superior call quality.
