Richard Goodwin
The highly anticipated Maemo-powered Nokia N900 has officially begun shipping to Europe, the Middle-East, Asia, and North America. UK customers can expect to see it in the shops on 16 November.
The N900 is priced at around 500 Euros in Europe SIM-free and will appear on a variety of contracts. One O2 deal is priced at £35 per month, and will get you a free handset, unlimited texts, and 900 minutes.
“The Nokia N900 has generated a lot of interest since its public launch in August, which has been reflected in the device pre-orders. What’s exciting is the Maemo software, which takes its cues from the desktop computer and offers a full browsing experience like no other handset,” said José-Luis Martinez, Vice President for Nseries, in a statement.
He added: “We believe the Nokia N900 will be a very compelling device for people who are passionate about technology.”
According to Nokia Conversations, The Nokia N900 device, at present, is not compatible with new 3G SIM cards from 3 in the UK, Ireland, Sweden, Denmark and Austria. However, a software update is currently being developed, which will remedy this issue by the end of the year.
