Orange sells 30,000 iPhones in first day
Paul Nesbitt
The British public is hungry for an iPhone running on the Orange network. Well, that's according to Orange, anyway!
'Orange UK had sold more than 30k iPhones, smashing what we believe is the previously published first day sales records for a phone in the UK!,' claimed Conor Maples, a marketeer at Orange UK.
Orange has also released an iPhone app enabling iPhone owners to participate in its popular Orange Wednesdays promotion, which offers 2 for 1 cinema tickets to Orange phone owners. The Orange Wednesdays app works rather like the Flixster app, in that it enables you to search for movies and local cinemas that show them; the Orange app only displays cinemas which participate in the promotion.
To get the discount voucher, you need to be connected using the Orange 3G network, and not WiFi.
O2, which started selling the iPhone at its UK launch two years ago, claims that it has 'over 1 million iPhone customers'. And to try and put Orange's figures into perspective O2 added that the 'iPhone helped O2 in the UK record its highest ever net gain of customers in the fourth quarter of 2007 when it first went on sale in the UK. O2 added 483,000 net customers in the quarter including 276,000 on contract.'
So there!
So sayeth Orange!
