Windows Mobile App Store now open to all versions
Richard Goodwin
In light of a declining market share, Windows has opened up its new Apps Store to all versions of Windows Mobile.
The Windows Mobile Apps Store is quite a late arrival on the global apps scene, having only opened a month ago - so in this sense, it has quite a bit of ground to make up before it is at the level of the Apple or Android Apps Marketplace.
However, the decision to open the apps store to only Windows 6.5 users left many Windows Mobile users' in the dark, and didn't do the new Windows-based market place any favours.
In an attempt to remedy this accessibility problem, Microsoft has opened up its Apps Store to all versions of Windows Mobile, which means devices running on 6.0 and 6.1 can now access, and download applications.
At present, there are only about 800 applications on the Windows Apps Store, which pales in comparison to the 100,000 plus available on the Apple Store.
In addition, reports have suggested that Microsoft’s share of the market has dropped significantly from 11 per cent to 7.9 per cent worldwide.
