Google to release mobile phone in 2010?

Richard Goodwin

Online reports suggest that Google is developing its very own mobile device, and that it could be with us as early as Q1 2010

The world of mobile devices has become a battle ground in recent years with Apple, RIM, Symbian, and now Android all competing for supremacy over the market. But it looks like its about to get a little more competitive with the news that Google is planning to release its own mobile device in 2010.

Since its release, Google’s Android OS has done very well appearing on a number of highly successful devices, such as the HTC Hero and the Motorola Droid. But how would a completely Google-branded device change things?

According to TechCrunch, Google has spent more money, more time, and has been involved in every aspect of the devices development -- more so than any other device, including the G1 and the Droid, which they were rumoured to be heavily involved with.

In addition, TechCrunch has also reported that that either HTC, LG or Samsung will build the actual device -- although, at present its looking most likely to be HTC, considering its supportive openness to the Android platform.

Unfortunately, both HTC and Google declined to make a comment regarding TechCrunch’s claims
