Londoners Lose 10,000 Mobile a Month in Taxis

According to The Telegraph, Londoners lose 10,000 mobile phones per month in the back of taxis -- and that figure, for some reason, always seems to increase during the Xmas festivities.

In addition to 10,000 mobile phones a month, a further 1,000 laptops and iPods are also left behind by owners in the back seats of taxis.

The Telegraph spoke to Steve McMenara, a spokesperson for TAXI, who said: “It’s a known fact that this is the worst time of year for forgetting 'property' in the back of cabs, but especially mobile phones and laptops as they slip onto the floor or get forgotten on the seats as passengers rush onto their next destination with their hands full.”

He added: “More people travel into London to buy their Christmas presents during this period who are not regular cab users, they hop a cab to get back to their train stations – and it’s always about an hour later we get a panicked call on their mobile phones asking for them to be returned.”

The startling results were gained by a survey conducted by security firm, Credant Technologies. Apparently, before the digital age, it was previously only umbrellas, briefcases, and folders.

However, nowadays it is most likely to be expensive and at times sensitive items, such as laptops and smartphones, which, as we all know, contain important information about us that can be used by criminals for identity theft.

So, what’s the moral of the story? Take better care of your belongings, especially in the back of taxis.
