Google confirms Nexus One will land next month
Richard Goodwin
Google has confirmed its first ever handset, the Nexus One, will go on sale next month.
According to reports, the Nexus One will be built by HTC and most likely feature an Android 2.0 operating system.
Consequently, the device, which is due to land at the beginning of January, will be initially sold under an invitation-only basis.
While Google has remained relatively tight-lipped about its first venture into the handset market, certain details and specs have been leaked that suggest the device itself will be a serious force to be reckoned with once it eventually lands.
The Nexus One, for instance, will feature a removable battery, a 5 megapixel camera, Micro SD Card support and a 3.7-inch WVGA AMOLED display, which are all iPhone beating stats.
In addition, the Nexus One is reported to be slimmer than the iPhone at 12.4mm and slightly lighter at 130g – although, there’s not much in it in this department.
The device also features Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR capabilities, GPS services, and accelerometer, as well a digital compass.
Google declined to comment on an official release date for the Nexus One when contacted by SmartphoneTracker.
Nevertheless, if reports are believed to be true, it looks like 2010 is going to get off to an exciting start with the Nexus One.
