Windows Mobile phones hit by Y2K+10 bug
Richard Goodwin
Mobile devices running Windows Mobile have been struck by a bug that has been referred to as the Y2K+10 bug.
According to TechRadar, the bug struck at the stroke of midnight on New Year’s Eve - 10 whole years after the original Y2K bug was set to strike and cause global chaos.
Fortunately, the bug itself is not too serious. According to reports, users have reported getting messages from the future - i.e. all SMSs were dated six years into the future, 1/01/16 for example.
Mobile devices running Windows Mobile 6.1 and 6.5 were most affected by the Y2K+10 bug, as well as a few non-Windows based devices and other US carriers with the exception of T-Mobile.
Any users that have been affected by Y2K+10 can, thanks to good people at WMExperts, download a fix for the bug here.
