Motorola Backflip: Motorola announces its third Android device at CES 2010
Richard Goodwin
Motorola announced its third Android phone, the Motorola Backflip, at this year’s CES 2010 meet in Las Vegas.
The new Motorola Backflip, which is Motorola’s third Android offering, is designed for both consumer-oriented users, much like the DRIOD, but will also feature some business functionality as well - nothing says business like a full QWERTY keyboard.
The Motorola Backflip is expected to go on sale in the first quarter of this year and features a design that allows the user to switch between either a video or keyboard display, which essentially grants users the best of both worlds.
The video side is geared towards media content such as video, music and the internet, whereas the keyboard display is tailored to more “business” or “professional” needs, such as email, document editing, and office applications.
"Since introducing our first Motoblur-based device, we have remained focused on differentiating the Android experience and bringing it to new carrier partners around the globe," said Sanjay Jha, co-chief executive at Motorola and chief of Motorola Mobile Devices.
"Backflip maximises the multi-tasking and multi-functional potential of Motoblur with its unique design elements, making it as smart as it is social."
Specs wise, the Motorola Backflip has 3.1-inch HVGA touchscreen display, built-in browser, 3G and Wi-Fi connections, GPS and Bluetooth.
All in all, the Backflip looks like quite an interesting device - it has, essentially, the best of both worlds, so in theory it should satisfy the needs of a broad section of users.
