Intel unveiled its GW990 smartphone at CES 2010 yesterday, which is the first mobile device to be based on its Moorestown platform.
Intel’s GW990 smartphone is the first device it has launched on its Moorestown platform, which uses a powerful Atom-based processor. According to reports, Intel is targeting the Moorestown platform at the smartphone and portable internet device market.
The GW990 smartphone will be made by LG and ship during the second of this year, according to The Inquirer.
The GW990 will feature a 5-inch screen, be capable of 720p high-definition video playback, support multi-touch input and will also have a camera on both the front and back of it.
The Inquirer also reported that the GW990 will run the Linux-based OS Moblin.
According to reports, the GW990 can run multiple applications and processes at the same time. In addition to this, Intel claim that the Moorestown platform uses half the power in active use and up to 50 times less power at idle compared to its predecessors.
The GW990 uses a power-efficient Atom processor called the Lincroft, which includes a 3D graphics accelerator and integrated memory controller. In addition to this, the GW990 uses a Langwell chipset.
