Chinese inventor creates Coke-powered mobile phone

A Chinese inventor is said to have invented the first ever mobile phone that is powered by Coke-Cola.

News of the Coke-Cola powered mobile phone first broke on Sky News when Daizi Zheng told reporters that she has invented a method for powering mobile phones with cans of fizzy pop.

Daizi Zheng designed the concept as part of her final project at Central St Martins college in London.

According to reports, Ms Zheng’s method uses Coke-Cola to charge “green-batteries” which are more eco-friendly than the standard lithium batteries used at present.

The Daily Mail reported that "Ms Zheng's bio battery would act as a fuel cell using enzymes as the catalyst to generate electricity from carbohydrates."

“By using bio battery as the power source of the phone, it only needs a pack of sugary drink and it generates water and oxygen while the battery dies out,” said Ms Zheng.

She added: “The concept is using bio battery ... to create a pollution-free environment.”

In addition to this, Zheng claims that the bio-battery can run three-to-four times longer than normal batteries and is also completely biodegradable.

Zheng designed her bio-batteries to be used on Nokia handsets. However, Nokia decided to pass on the design, claiming the idea was “too futuristic.”

Zheng admitted that at present the idea is still in its initial stages and therefore has a few problems facing it - such as providing enough power to make a phone call.

However, she has stated that cola-phones could be on the market place within the next five years.
