Samsung launches “youth” oriented smartphone in UK
Richard Goodwin
Samsung has announced its plans to target the “youth” of Britain with its smartphone, the Samsung Genio Slide.
The Korean phone giant has confirmed that the Samsung Genio Slide will be available on Vodafone for the first 30 days and will feature BBC iPlayer, Twitter and Facebook compatibility.
The device, which is remarkably similar to the LG GW620 and the Cookie, features a full slide out QWERTY keyboard, a 2.8-inch resistive screen, 3 megapixel camera, Wi-Fi connectivity, 3G, GPS and a 3.5mm audio jack for all your musical needs. In addition to this, the device itself will also support up to 16GB of storage via its MicroSD card slot.
Web wise, the Samsung Genio Slide features a built in browser with one-touch zoom function - so no pinch-and-grab function then.
In addition to this, the device has an onboard camera that also doubles as a camcorder that is capable of recording in MPEG4, WMV, and DivX video formats.
The device itself, which is now available on Vodafone, is priced at £15 a month on a two year contract. And for this, you’ll get 75 minutes and 250 texts but no internet, which, if we’re honest, is a bit on the lean side.
Mark Mitchinson, Vice President at Samsung Mobile UK, said: "We've enjoyed huge success with Genio touch and Genio Qwerty and, as a hybrid of the two devices; we know it will be a hit with the target audience."
