LG launched its first Android based smartphone today, the LG InTouch Max GW620, which plans to bring “apps to the masses.”

The launch of the LG InTouch Max GW620, which is LG’s first Android device, is set to build on the growing popularity of the Android OS and the ever increasing number of apps now available on the Android Market, which is thought to be well over 20,000 now.

The LG InTouch Max GW620 features a five-line QWERTY keyboard, 3-inch touchscreen display and a 5 megapixel camera.

In addition to this, the GW620 features Auto Face-tagging, a face recognition app and a Face-to-Action app that lets takes users straight to their friends’ social networking sites by simply touching their faces in a picture, which is quite a nice touch - please, excuse the pun.

Other features worth a mention are the LG InTouch Max’s Linkbook feature, which is a built in social networking manager app, that takes users straight to the users’ friends social networking sites directly from the contact list.

John Barton, LG sales and marketing Director said: “This is a symbolic launch for us. It signals the end of expensive and exclusive applications and the start of applications for everyone.”

He added: “Many people don’t actually know that the Android market offers an impressive 20,000 plus applications which are easy to download, and of which 65% are free – and this selection is growing every day.”

“We are proud to bring out the LG InTouch Max which is a high performing and easy-to-use device that is perfect for those out there who want to experience the ever-growing and popular world of applications.”

The LG InTouch Max GW620 is available on both T-Mobile and Virgin Media. T-Mobile are offering the device for free on 2 year contract for £20 a month. Virgin have upped-the-ante slightly and are offering the device for free on an 18 month contract with unlimited texts and data for £22 a month.
