Google has taken steps to stop users swearing on its Nexus One
Google, the search engine company, confirmed that it is censoring bad words on the Nexus One via its voice/text input feature.
Prior to the launch of the Nexus One Google made a big deal about the fact that users would be able to “speak” there texts and emails. However, it is now added one additional feature to this service, which stops users from swearing or using “bad words” - could the term “iPhone” be banned as well?
Check out our 10 other reasons why the Nexus One flopped here.
According to Reuters, Google stated the following regarding its no swearing policy:
“We filter potentially offensive or inappropriate results because we want to avoid situations whereby we might misrecognise a spoken query and return profanity when, in fact, the user said something completely innocent.”
While there is undoubtedly logic behind Google’s censorship - after all, no one wants to send an email full of profanities to their bosses by mistake. But you’d think there’d at least be an option to turn it off as well though? Unfortunately, there isn't.
And this is where many users’ will feel let down and a little infuriated by Google, because after all, we’re all adults here and if users want to swear into their mobile devices, it should be their right to do so - especially when they’ve paid upwards of £500 for the privildge.
