Mobile network operator 3 has claimed that it has 93 per cent 3G coverage in the UK after installing its 10,000th UK cell site in London.
UK mobile network operator 3 announced today that it has opened its 10,000th cell site in the UK, bringing its 3G coverage up to 93 per cent in the UK.
The new cell site, which was installed in Shooters Hill, London, comes as part of the network’s drive to reach 13 thousand cell sites by the end of the year.
Graham Baxter, CTO at 3 UK, said:
“Our network is already the biggest 3G network in the UK. Now we’re adding new coverage and capacity across the country to meet demand and bring the benefits of 3G to people who’ve never had access in their area before.”
In addition to this, 3 also stated that it is introducing new policy which will advise people about network coverage problems and help resolve any issues that come up.
Many analysts and experts have stated that mobile phone operators will begin doing battle on who provides the best 3G coverage as opposed to the best minutes and texts bundles.
If this is true, then it looks like 3 is taking some steps to ensure it remains competitive with the “big three”.
