Man dropped by girlfriend after she found Virgin sex messages on his phone
Paul Nesbitt
Imagine how you'd feel if your partner found sexually suggestive text messages ('sexts') on your mobile phone and dropped you? Imagine how you'd feel if you hadn't sent the sexts and that they had been pre-loaded on your phone.
Consider the sad story of 'Darren P.' a Canadian man who was given a Virgin Mobile Samsung phone for work, only for his girlfriend of two and a half years to find salacious sexts on his new handset. These messages had titles like 'Booty Call', 'Where u at' and 'Be there soon'.
Darren, 49, was thrown out of his home by his enraged girlfriend, who didn't believe his protestations that he had nothing to do with the messages.
'I said, "That's ridiculous, why would I cheat?"There's things I believe about relationships... The first is that if you are in a relationship, you don't cheat," Darren told the Winnipeg Free Press. Darren said he didn't even know his phone was text-enabled.
'I said, "You're being ridiculous." She said, "No I'm not, here's the proof." '
After the destruction of his relationship, Darren called Virgin Mobile in Canada as the first step to clear his name.
Eventually, the store where he bought his phone believed his story after staff found that other phones had the exact same messages pre-loaded.
'It's not just teenagers buying these things. For people who don't know the technology, these things can be severely misconstrued,' said Daren. 'I'd like to see the phones recalled and the messages taken off, so that others don't have to go through the hell I'm going through.'
There was no news as to whether his girlfriend has taken him back.
