Samsung rolls out the Wave with Bada OS at MWC

Richard Goodwin

Samsung has been displaying its new smartphone, the Wave, at this year’s MWC. The new Samsung device features the company’s brand new OS, known as Bada.

The Samsung Wave is the first Bada-powered device to be released by Samsung. Bada, according to Samsung, means ocean - what this has to do with mobile phones though is anyone’s guess.

Nevertheless, the Wave is well endowed device, featuring a 3.3-inch AMOLED touchscreen, a 1GHz processor, Bluetooth 3.0 and Wi-Fi 802.11n.

The Wave also features Samsung’s very own touchwiz UI as well as several other new features which are designed to make the device more user intuitive.

Some notable additions to the touchwiz interface are a customisable home screen and menu, as well as the syncing together of both your email, IM and social networking services.

In addition to this, Samsung have also thrown in a 5 megapixel camera with LED flash, a 3.5mm headphone jack, GPS, 2GB on onboard memory and an SD card slot for even further storage expansion.

The Wave will also shoot videos in 720p, supports DivX and Xvid and also 5.1 surround sound, which is certainly a nice touch - Kudus Samsung!

In addition to this, Samsung’s Bada Apps Store is expected to launch in a further 43 countries throughout 2010. At present, it’s available in the UK, France, Italy, Singapore, Germany, Brazil and China.

The Wave will be available in the UK in April. No details about price or networks have been disclosed as yet though.
