Sony Ericsson Vivaz coming in March

Richard Goodwin

Vodafone has confirmed that it will be home for the Sony Ericsson Vivaz, which is due to land on the 9th March in the UK

Following MWC there has been a lot of news surrounding new releases, and while it’s been a rough couple of years for Sony Ericsson, it looks like they might win some friends back with the Vivaz.

The Vodafone release of the Vivaz will see the handset be made available for £30 a month on a 24 month contract - but with competition from the HTC Hero and Motorola DROID, will it be enough for Sony Ericsson to persuade people back to the fold?

And remember, the HTC Legend, which has a 1GHz snapdragon processor, is coming out soon and will be priced very similarly.

Specs wise, the Vivaz is certainly a capable smartphone featuring a 3.2-inch touchscreen, a 720Mhz ARM-based processor, and an impressive 8.1 megapixel camera that can do 4x digital zoom and shoot videos in 720p.

The Vivaz’s camera also features built-in image stabilizer, face and smile detection and also autofocus.

Whether the Vivaz will aid Sony Ericsson’s plight is anyones guess. Granted, it does have some interesting specs, such as a DLNA certification, AGPS, WiFi, Bluetooth, HSDPA, a 8GB microSD card and integration with Google's Picasa and Youtube.

But the Vivaz is a Symbian-based smartphone, which everyone knows is not a good thing.

So, with this in mind, will the Vivaz be enough to persuade an Android-crazed market base back over to Sony Ericsson and Symbian?

Unfortunately, we don’t think so.
