Apple set to unveil iPhone 4.0 software

At an Apple media event in the US on 8 April the company is set to reveal a new version of iPhone OS.
The iPhone OS 4.0 is rumoured to finally support multi-tasking for third-party applications, one of the biggest issues that users have with Apple OS.
So far only Apple applications can run in the background, but a new solution will enable the iPhone to compete on new ground with devices running on Google’s Android system, which already has this ability.
It also looks like Apple will allow a unified mailbox for its mail app, which means multiple accounts can potentially share a single mailbox, offered by just about all other email programs.
Apple is expected to release a new version of the iPhone this summer. A new version comes every year, with new iPhones previously coming out in June/ July time in 2007, 2008 and 2009. The most recent was the iPhone 3GS.
