O2 has announced it will make the Palm Pre Plus and Palm Pixi Plus phones available in the UK from May 28.

The Palm Pre Plus is very similar to the Palm Pre released last year, but with more storage and RAM. It still runs with the Palm webOS, carrying a slider keyboard, larger touchscreen and high-performance processor.

The Pixi Plus is smaller and less powerful, aimed at first-time smartphone buyers looking for an affordable phone and carries a full QWERTY keyboard.

“We are excited to bring Pre Plus and Pixi Plus to the market for O2 customers,” said Jon Rubinstein, Palm chairman and chief executive officer.

“With the choice of these two new Palm webOS phones, customers across the UK can stay connected, so they never miss a thing.”

The Palm webOS was notable for the ability to run multiple applications simultaneously, but it never was able to make the device an iPhone beater.

With the glut on Android devices out, it also remains to be seen what kind of impact it can make on a crowded marketplace.

It will be the first devices launched by Palm since it was bought up by PC maker HP for $1.2 billion.
