Apple sells two million iPads in two months

Apple announced that sales of the iPad have passed two million, less than 60 days since its launch on April 3.
The company recently started shipping the iPad in the UK this weekend, and the much-hyped launch saw queues snaking from its store in Regent Street London.
“Customers around the world are experiencing the magic of iPad, and seem to be loving it as much as we do”, said Steve Jobs, Apple’s CEO.
“We appreciate their patience, and are working hard to build enough iPads for everyone”.
The iPad has been the most hyped device of the year, and looks to have ushered in a trend for touchscreen tablet devices.
Other companies like Dell are looking to bring out their own devices, to compete in a new market formed with devices that are not quite a smartphone, and not quite a netbook.
Apple said that developers have built over 5,000 new apps for the iPad, and this doesn’t count the 200,000 apps already available for the iPhone.
It won’t be Apple’s first hit of the summer, with the announcement of a new iPhone as well as a new operating system likely to be announced in a week’s time on June 7 by Steve Jobs.
