The Motorola FLIPOUT has been announced for release, and is reported to have first been picked up by Orange.
The FLIPOUT is a strange looking smartphone in that it looks square, with the touchscreen’s pivot design exposing a five-row QWERTY keyboard.
It looks to be launching in Europe from the second quarter of 2010, running on Android 2.1 and will feature up to seven customisable home screens, live wallpapers, and added security for exchange server users.
It also has what the company calls ‘MOTOBLUR’, which is supposed to sync contacts, posts, messages and photos from sources like Facebook and Twitter. There is also an app store when you can buy applications and games.
“FLIPOUT merges Motorola’s design heritage with Android to deliver a new take on the typical smartphone form.
“In an incredibly compact square, FLIPOUT fits neatly in your palm, purse or small pocket, making it fun and easy to stay connected while on the go,” said Ralf Gerbershagen, vice president and GM, Mobile Devices, Western Europe,
Motorola.
“For fans of social networking, FLIPOUT also features enhancements to MOTOBLUR, allowing users to connect with their networks however they want.”
There is also a 3MP camera included, with digital zoom and Kodak technology included.
