MaxInjury review
Richard Goodwin
We review MaxInjury, the game that allows you to throw a crash test dummy down perilous drops and concrete flights of stairs with the sole intention of causing it as much physical harm as possible
Rating: ![]()
Verdict: MaxInjury is a seriously fun game, with brilliant animation and physics. It has enough levels to keep you interested and a practise mode that lets you just mess around - it's the perfect iPhone game.
Platform: iPhone and iPod Touch
Pros: MaxInury is a lot of fun, very addictive, easy to pick up and play, and sports some seriously nice graphics for such a cheap price tag
Cons: It's a little violent, but that shouldn't worry you too much. Additionally, some of the levels - namely 3 and 5 - are a bit rubbish, to say the least

Most games have a point to them, or at least a story - that’s usually a given. For instance, there’s usually a protagonist undergoing some sort of plight and it’s your job, as the gamer, to lead them to victory, vanquishing an array of beasts, obstacles, and proverbial hurdles along the way. This has been the way of games since they began - story, engagement, victory, satisfaction. However, MaxInjury contains none of these aspects, and is something of a gaming aberration...
So what is MaxInjury then? In a nutshell, MaxInjury is a seriously addictive, stupidly engaging, and over-the-top game that will put a smile on even the most morose individual’s face - It’s also one of the most shamelessly violent games we’ve seen on the iPhone format to date. Needless to say, we liked it a lot!
The premise of the game is simple: you control a crash test dummy-type thing affectionately called Rag-Doll, and by swiping your finger on the screen you get to throw him down concrete flights of stairs, off the top of high ledges, through walls, and down near vertical slopes.
So where’s the skill in all this? Well, the skill comes in attempting to get Rag-Doll to hit as many obstacles - railings, boxes, pallets, and fences - as possible. Basically, your aim is to cause Rag-Doll MaxInjury - i.e: as much physical damage as possible.
As we said, this game is seriously addictive and if you’re old enough to remember the Crash Test Dummy toys from the early 90s, you’ll know where we’re coming from, as MaxInjury has exactly the same appeal as they did.
Looks wise, MaxInjury doesn’t disappoint either. The animation is superb and the physics are spot on. In fact, so much so, that during testing we found ourselves wincing from time to time as we brutally tossed and flipped Rag-Doll around during his falls back down to terraformer.
The competitive element of the game centres around obtaining high scores, which are published on scoreboards at the end of each level, so there’s definitely a lot potential for getting the whole family/housemates/work colleagues involved. During testing about four of us were playing and constantly attempting to out do one another.
Granted, all this does sound rather macabre, but MaxInury is one hell of a game, and it does has one really good thing going for it that separates it from a lot of other iPhone games doing the rounds at the moment - it’s actually fun to play.
In short, this game is very, very simple but it is also a great deal of fun, and we can’t recommend it highly enough. It is fairly original, particularly if you don’t remember the Crash test Dummies, and sports some of the best graphics and animation we’ve ever seen on such a low priced game.
Obviously, this isn’t the best game in the world, but if you are looking for a game that doesn’t take itself too seriously, is easy to play anytime, and won’t cost you the Earth then MaxInjury is the game for you.

This is Rag-Doll, he's the poor chap that you get to cause MAX INJURY to...

As you can see, Rag-Doll spends a lot of his time falling. In this picture he's about to smash head first into some metal containers - lovely stuff.

Sometimes if Rag-Doll hits a surface hard enough he will stay there for a bit - if this happens and you have no more moves left you lose, and Rag-Doll gets to take a breather.

You get most points for large drops coupled with severe head trauma. Fortunately, when this was taken Rag-Doll was about two seconds away from some serious head trauma.
