Verdict: FileMagnet is a brilliant app that makes good on all it promises to do. Simple to use, and extremely effective - it'll become one of your most used applications in no time.
Platform: iPhone or iPod Touch
Pros: Easy to use, good looking layout, opens almost an absolute wealth of formats, and is easy to organise and customise to suit your needs.
Cons: FileMagnet sometimes struggles with larger, data-rich PDF documents. However, problems are few and far between, so it's not really anything to concern yourself with

If you’re constantly on the move, or work in an industry which means you have more word processed documents than actual GBs on your hard drive then you’ll know how important document management is. Granted, there are a wealth of web-based services that allow you to store your documents online for use at a later juncture - GoogleDocs is probably the most obvious example of this.
However, if you’re after a quick and easy-to-use solution that allows you to move pretty much any word processed document between your PC and your iPhone/iPod touch, then FileMagnet is the app for you.
FileMagnet is simplicity at its best, there’s no technical stuff to deal with, or annoying installs - simply download the free FileMagnet transfer software from the website, and you can begin moving documents between your PC and your iPhone/iPod touch.
The application itself works using Wi-Fi, so you need to make sure that your PC and iPhone are on the same network, and once they’re synced FileMagnet will remember which connection your PC is on forever - so there’s no need to re-access the network each time you launch the application.
FileMagnet is an absolute dream to use, it’s user-intuitive, has all the pinch and grab controls you’d expect, and it’ll literally open any document you put in it. During testing we opened PDF, Pages, Word, saved webpages - providing you have Flash -, pictures, Numbers, Keynote, Powerpoint, Excel, MP4 movie files, and sounds - basically, it’ll open anything within reason!
Another brilliant aspect of this app is the email function. Basically, once you have a document open within FileMagnet, there’s a ‘Mail’ symbol, you simply push this and the document can be sent to anyone you desire, which is certainly beneficial to anyone who works on the move.
Additionally, the option to organise your documents into folders allows you to ensure that your work and personal life will never meet, and always remain organised.
FileMagnet is effectively a portable hard drive, just with the benefits of a Kindle device, without being limited to only a few formats. Additional touches, such as the option to use the tilt function to read longer documents makes using FileMagnet a pleasure and ensures you’ll be using it for sometime to come - in fact, you’ll wonder how you survived without it for so long.
Overall, we did run into one problem during testing, where FileMagnet struggled to open a rather large PDF document. Nevertheless, this was only a single instance, and it performed perfectly for the rest of the time, so in this sense, it’s very difficult to be too harsh on it - after all, we all have bad days...
In short, this is a wonderful app that has a million and one uses, and is so easy to use, you’ll wonder how you survived so long without it. FileMagnet is an app for both professional and casual users’ alike, think of it as a Kindle-type device, just with loads more applications!

This is an example of a Pages Document being displayed in FileMagnet.

This is the main page where you can organise your documents into folders. As we said, the presentation is very neat and tidy.

This is a PDF document under significant zoom, again, the quality and pinch and grab function of FileMagnet are second to none.

As you can see, FileMagnet uploads and handles pictures very well. You can also see the additional functions on the tool bar, such as email and tilt-view, located on the bottom portion of the screen.
