The curiously named Ego is an iPhone app that lets you check out a variety of web statistical tools in one place and on the go.

These website metrics range from Google Analytics vistors and page impressions to Twitter followers to Feedburner subscribers to Google PageRank. Just boot up the Ego app and it will immediately interrogate all the 'widgets' you have entered and provide you with the latest stats.

And that's all it does. The real beauty of this app lies in the simplicity of its objectives and the beauty of its user interface. The different stats are presented on a portrait screen in a single list that's colour coordinated. Clicking on a particular website's stats may switch between visitors and page impressions for that day, and then continued clicking will show the weekly, monthly and year-to-date figures.

The app is fast and stable - and gorgeous to look at. It does what it says on the tin and doesn't distract you with too much extraneous information. Webmasters and stats junkies - is there a difference? - will constantly be whipping out their iPhone to check the latest figures. We certainly do here.

Adding a new widget is particularly easy - just click on the Settings icon, click New widget and enter the either url, login details and a label. No instructions are necessary.

If you were being really fussy you may criticise Ego for not providing more detailed stats - unique users for Google Analytics, for instance - or comparative info. But that would defeat the point, we suspect, by adding extra complexity and visual clutter.

As it is, Ego is a small but perfectly realised iPhone app that works beautufully with the touchscreen interface.
