Most of the time when you're using a computer, your input devices will be right there at your finger tips. However, there are times when they won't be at all. You might be doing a presentation in front of a group of highly important chaps and chapettes, or you might just be using your PC or mac as a media centre.
For all these moments, Air Mouse Pro is an absolute godsend. All you have to do is to install a small bit of software onto the computer you want to control with the app and as soon as you load up the app on your iPhone, hey presto, you're iPhone's the mouse.
In fact, it's not just the mouse - it's the keyboard, and even a makeshift media remote. When using it, the default view makes almost the whole screen a trackpad, with a couple of mouse buttons and a scroll wheel. Even this working well would be enough to impress, but Air Mouse Pro goes a good few steps further.
Shake the iPhone and the secondary view pops up. Here, the top half of the screen becomes the trackpad, while the bottom houses one of a number of functions - either a virtual Qwerty keyboard, a second keyboard of F-buttons, arrows and programmable macro buttons, a selection of web browsing buttons or a pretty comprehensive batch of music control buttons. The latter two will even make their respective programs come to the fore on your PC. Another shake takes you back to the full trackpad mode. Very simple but very, very clever.
There is one key limitation to Air Mouse Pro, which is that the computer you use has to be on the same WiFi connection, but then anything else would have serious security implications. It'd basically be a Trojan virus, dangerous stuff.
Aside from this, our testing of Air Mouse Pro showed it to be virtually flawless. It's sensitive, responsive, looks great and can be used anywhere in Wi-Fi range, which would be further than a Bluetooth device's limits in most cases. Imbued with a real touch of class, Air Mouse Pro even flashes up the name of the program your computer's using whenever you switch programs.
Sure, we'd still rather use a full-sized keyboard and decent optical mouse for our day-today computing, but Air Mouse Pro's capabilities are seriously impressive. If your computer spends most of its time attached to a TV rather than a nearby monitor, Air Mouse Pro could easily replace a number of fancy remotes and mid-air operated trackball devices. And it sure costs a whole lot less than them.
